Friday (today), the Mingei will offer a talk on Understanding Textile Conservation by conservator Annabelle Camp. At the San Diego Museum of Art, there will be a Bastille Day Celebration to celebrate French Independence. At Centro Cultural de la Raza, there will be a reception for the Toltecayotl Fuego Nuevo en Aztlán Art exhibition. At the Persian Cultural Center, there will be a Family Night event. At the Joan B. Kroc Theatre, the 30th Annual Día del Folklor celebration will be hosted by Ballet Folklórico Jalisciense. The film Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush will be screened at the Digital Gym. There will be a Flamenco Fundraising Show at the Turquoise. The annual San Diego International Mariachi Summit Concert will take place at Balboa Theatre. At Royal Diamond Room, there will be a Banda Night Party.
Saturday and Sunday, the San Diego Pride Festival and Parade will take place at Marston Point in Balboa Park.
Saturday, the Chinese Historical Society will present a talk on Xuanzang and the Real Journey to the West. Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá will host its annual Festival of the Bells. At Coronado Public Library, Warwick's will host author Sujata Massey, who will talk about and sign copies of her book The Mistress of Bhatia House, the 4th in her "Perveen Mistry" series. At La Sinaloense Bar & Grill, La Autentica Vallarta, Rocio La Dama De La Cumbia and Grupo Rezkte will all perform. Tijuana-based band Ramona will perform at the Soda Bar.
Sunday, the Digital Gym will screen the classic film Big Boss featuring Bruce Lee.
Tuesday, the Digital Gym Cinema will be hosting a screening of Éric Rohmer's A Tale of Summer. At Warwick's, author John David Mann will present a talk on his new book, Blind Fear. Afro Dead and Sia Tolno will be performing at Winstons Beach Club.
Wednesday the Angelika Film Center will be hosting screenings of Hayao Miyazaki's film My Neighbor Totoro and there will be another screening the following day. Ingmar Bergman's film Summer with Monika will be screened at the Coronado Library. At the San Diego History Center, there will be a book launch and signing for Stories of Some Filipino Americans of San Diego.
Throughout next weekend, Southwestern College will present a Summer Shakespeare Festival.
Next Friday, Reggaetonlandia en la Playa will take place on Mission Bay's Beach House. Cabaret, the Musical opens at the Ocean Beach Playhouse. Acclaimed Malian singer Oumou Sangaré will perform at UCSD's Epstein Amphitheater.
Next Saturday, there will be a Kintsugi Workshop (art of golden repair) at the San Diego Craft Collective. The House of Peru will hold its annual Lawn Program. The 3rd Annual Filipino American Friendship Festival will take place at NTC Park in Liberty Station. The Quartyard will be hosting Pon Mas Reggaeton, a night of outdoor music and dance. UK Reggae band Steel Pulse will perform at The Sound.
Next Sunday, Tango del Rey will be hosting a Lucha Libre event. Dezarie will be performing at WorldBeat Center. The House of Colombia will host their annual Lawn Program at the International Cottages.
Local theatrical productions include Cabaret: the Musical at the Ocean Beach Playhouse.
